PUBLIC HEARING ON "FORCED
LABOR CONTROL"
The 5th Region's Regional
Labor Attorney will promote a Public Hearing about
the topic 'Fighting Forced Labor', in the municipality
of Bom Jesus da Lapa-BA, on December 12th. The
event will be attended by representatives from
the Regional Labor Inspection, the Federal Police,
INCRA and IBAMA, as well as from non-governmental
organizations, such as the Land Pastoral Commission
- CPT.
The public hearing has become
necessary, considering the denunciation forwarded
by the Federal Police that there is slave labor
in charcoal producing units in the Bom Jesus da
Lapa region. According to information provided
by the 5th Region's Regional Labor Attorney -
PRT, the laborers that have been found were recruited
in Minas Gerais State and taken there for working
in deforestation and charcoal production, part
of which is exported to Italy. Rural property
owners and entrepreneurs from the steel industry,
who buy charcoal, have been invited to participate
in the hearing. The event will be directed by
the Labor Attorney of the 5th Region, Dr. Luís
Telles
